Some of the top players with returning high school eligibility in the state were invited to participate in the 22nd annual IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Underclass Showcase events in 2024, the girls on June 13 and the boys on June 28. Both events – along with the 2024 IBCA/IHSAA Girls’ Team Showcase on June 14-15 and the 2024 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes on June 21-23 – came off well. Plans are to continue these four events in 2025.
Next summer, the following events are planned, tentatively on these dates:
- The 2025 IBCA/IHSAA Girls’ Top 100 Underclass Showcase is set for Thursday, June 12 at Ben Davis High School. Kristi Sigler of Jennings County and Lisa Finn of Indianapolis Cathedral serve as directors of the Girls’ Underclass Showcase.
- The 2025 IBCA/IHSAA Girls’ Team Showcase event will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and June 14, at Hamilton Southeastern, Mt. Vernon (Fortville) and Fishers. Tom Beach, IBCA associate executive director and chief operating officer, and Craig Lyon of Charlie Hughes Basketball coordinate the Girls’ Team Showcase.
- The 2025 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 20-21-22, at Carmel and Westfield high schools. Tom Beach, IBCA associate executive director and chief operating officer, and Craig Lyon of Charlie Hughes Basketball coordinate the Boys’ Team Showcase.
- The 2025 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Top 100 Underclass Showcase is set for Friday, June 27 at Ben Davis High School. IBCA president Michael Adams of Evansville Reitz and David Wood of West Lafayette serve as directors of the Boys’ Underclass Showcase.
The two boys’ events are held during weekends that have been designated as “scholastic weekends” by the NCAA on its Men’s Division I recruiting calendar. The two girls’ events are both being held during the one weekend designated as a “scholastic weekend” by the NCAA on its Women’s Division I recruiting calendar.
Please note the following statement from IHSAA assistant commissioner Brian Lewis with regard to the June scholastic exposure events.
“As you know, the NFHS authorizes NCAA June Scholastic events for both Boys’ Basketball and Girls’ Basketball,” Lewis said. “The IBCA does a phenomenal job with four separate events here in the state of Indiana. I want to remind all coaches, an Indiana school must have an approved request (from the IHSAA) in order to attend an out-of-state June Scholastic event. Again, we believe we have the best events in the country for our student-athletes, and we encourage continued participation in our events.”
For 2025, for the individual showcase events, the IBCA has developed a “Preseason Watch List” during September 2024. Coaches received an email on Sept. 4 asking them to submit names of players (their own players or opposing players) by Sept. 25. Names submitted to this list, along with formal nominations at the end of sectional play, are one more item that will be used when the IBCA committee makes decisions on invitations in March 2025.
The IBCA would like to thank the IHSAA, Ballogy, Franciscan Health Sports Medicine, Gatorade, BSN Sports, IHSAA basketball officials who called the scrimmages and all the high school coaches for their support over the years in making these events successful. In addition, the IBCA would like to thank the athletic staffs at Ben Davis, Hamilton Southeastern, Mt. Vernon (Fortville), Carmel and Westfield high schools for allowing their facilities to be used for these events in 2024.
