The IBCA calendar in 2017-18 again will include the Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup, a five-game event between teams from Indiana and Kentucky.
The fifth Challenge Cup will be Jan. 6, 2018, at Central Hardin High School in Cecilia, Ky. Teams representing Indiana are the Jeffersonville girls plus boys teams from Rushville, Oldenburg Academy, Oak Hill and Evansville Bosse.
The event is being coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
The schedule for the day is (times listed are EST):
- Boys: Rushville vs. Bullitt East, Ky., noon
- Boys: Oldenburg Academy vs. Oldham County, Ky., 2 p.m.
- Girls: Jeffersonville vs. Mercer County, Ky., 4 p.m.
- Boys: Oak Hill vs. Covington Catholic, Ky., 6 p.m.
- Boys: Evansville Bosse vs. Scott County, Ky., 8 p.m.
Kentucky has won all previous events – 4-1 in 2014 in Louisville’s Freedom Hall, 3-2 in 2015 in the New Castle Fieldhouse, 3-2 in 2016 in the Frankfort (Ky.) Convention Central and 3-2 in 2017 in the New Castle Fieldhouse. In four years, the event has raised about $28,000 for charities, including the Wounded Warrior Program as well as the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Admission is $8.00 per person for the entire day of games. Military service veterans and their immediate families will be admitted at no charge. Tickets will be available from participating schools or on game day at TBA.
A best-of-five-game format will determine the winner of the 2018 Challenge Cup. The 10 participating teams feature multiple NCAA Division I prospects. Proceeds from the 2018 event again will go to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Plans are for this event to be hosted at an Indiana site in January 2019.
