IBCA Player of the Week program

About 100 high school boys and girls will have the opportunity to win IBCA Player of the Week recognition in 2020-21. This is the 13th season of the IBCA Player of the Week program.

Initiated in 2008-09, these awards are presented to deserving boys and girls who had outstanding weeks. The Indiana Pacers/Indiana Fever served as the title sponsor of these awards from 2008-09 through 2011-12. Subway Restaurants of Indiana served as the title sponsor of these awards from 2012-13 through 2019-20.

In the 2019-2020 season, 92 players – 42 boys and 50 girls – were recognized with IBCA/Subway Player of the Week awards. Approximately nine more boys would have been honored if the season had not been stopped because of COVID-19 at the end of sectional play.

For the coming season, plans are for at least one boy and one girl from each of the three IHSAA districts to be honored each week. The IBCA would prefer that nominations come from coaches of potential winners or from media in those areas. Coaches are to be current-year IBCA members in order to nominate players.

To submit a nominee, please e-mail info to IBCA district representative Brandon Bradley at ibcasubwaypotw@gmail.com by noon Monday each week of the playing season (girls from Nov. 2 through Feb. 22; boys from Nov. 23 through March 22). Coach Bradley is coordinating the IBCA Player of the Week program for boys and for girls for the 2020-21 season.

If you nominate a player, please include the player's name, school, grade, height, position, year in school and a recap of the player's performance in his/her game or games of the preceding week, Monday through Saturday. Please also include the coach's name, e-mail address and best phone number to reach the coach. Posting game information on MaxPreps in a timely fashion is another way to help players receive consideration for an IBCA Player of the Week award.

After all players are selected during a given week, they will be added to a growing list of IBCA Players of the Week. At the end of the season, in conjunction with the annual IBCA Spring Clinic, IBCA Player of the Week winners from 2020-21 will receive a certificate in recognition of the honor.

The first deadline for reports for the coming season will be noon on Monday, Nov. 9 for girls and Monday, Nov. 29 for boys. These will continue each week through the Monday following the IHSAA Boys and Girls State Finals.
