The IBCA calendar in 2020-21 again will include a Challenge Cup event, but it will be a “new,” Indiana-only IBCA Challenge Cup. The new format of the event will feature teams from northern Indiana against southern Indiana.
This year’s event will feature three games – one girls’ game and two boys’ games – to be played in New Castle Fieldhouse on Jan. 9, 2021. The event is coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, and the schedule for the day is listed below (times listed are EST):
At New Castle Fieldhouse
- Girls: Crown Point vs. Linton-Stockton, 1 p.m.
- Boys: South Bend St. Joseph vs. Columbus North, about 3 p.m.
- Boys: Gary West vs. Floyd Central, about 5 p.m.
Admission is $8 per person. Military service veterans and their immediate families will be admitted at no charge. Tickets will be available from participating schools during November and December or on game day at New Castle.
A best-of-three format will determine the winner – the North or the South – of the IBCA Challenge Cup in the 2020-21 season. The six participating teams feature multiple NCAA Division I prospects. Net proceeds from the 2020-21 event will go to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the IBCA Scholarship Fund.
The Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup that was played the past seven years has now ended. Kentucky went 6-1 over the years in that format. In 37 games over seven seasons, Kentucky schools won 24 of the contests. Over the past seven years, the Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup raised about $30,000 for charities, including the Wounded Warrior Program, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
