For the third straight year Executive Director Steve Witty met in Indianapolis on July 17 and 18, 2007 with the leaders of other State Basketball Coaches Associations to create a forum for the exchange of ideas among state coaches association.
There is a general consensus that basketball coaches need to have a more influential voice at the National level with the National Federation as well as the NABC.
A new organization called the National Association of High School Basketball Directors (NAHSBD) was formed to provide a voice for high school basketball. Members of this organization will be State Basketball Coaches Association Directors. Dave Archer, the executive Director from New York was selected as the first president of the NAHSBD. Tom Hursey, Executive Director of the Basketball Association of Michigan was named 1st Vice President and Steve Witty was named 2nd Vice President. Pat Carroll of the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association was named Secretary.
During the month of September, Tom Hursey from Michigan represented the NAHSBD in Kansas City at an NABC meeting and Steve Witty met with Jim Haney, the Executive Director of the NABC in Indianapolis. The NABC recognizes this new organization and has invited representative to their meeting for input. So far 25 states that have High School Basketball Coaches Associations have been invited to join this new national organization.
