Some of the top players with returning high school eligibility in the state were invited to participate in the 20th annual IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Underclass Showcase events in 2022 – the girls on June 17 and the boys on June 18. Both events, along with the 2022 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes on June 24-26, came off well. Plans are to continue these three events in 2023.
A fourth event, a Girls Team Showcase event, is being added for 2023. This is because the NCAA women’s recruiting calendar now has added one weekend for scholastic events – June 15-17, 2023. Coaches from NCAA Division I schools will be allowed to attend these events to evaluate. Thus, the IBCA will organize a Girls Team Showcase in addition to the Girls Top 100 Underclass Showcase.
So here is the list of summer events:
- The 2023 IBCA/IHSAA Girls’ Top 100 Underclass Showcase is set for Thursday, June 15 at Ben Davis. Kathie Layden of Northwestern and Jane Schott of West Lafayette serve as directors of the Girls’ Underclass Showcase.
- The Girls’ Team Showcase event will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and June 17, at Ben Davis. Tom Beach, IBCA associate executive director and chief operating officer, helps coordinate the Girls’ Team Showcase.
- The 2023 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Top 100 Underclass Showcase is set for June 17 at Brownsburg. IBCA associate executive director Marty Johnson and David Wood of West Lafayette serve as directors of the Boys’ Underclass Showcase.
- The 2023 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes is set for June 23-25 at Carmel and Westfield. Tom Beach, IBCA associate executive director and chief operating officer, helps coordinate the Boys’ Team Showcase.
The two boys’ events are held during weekends that have been designated as “scholastic weekends” by the NCAA on its Men’s Division I recruiting calendar. The two girls’ events are both being held during the one weekend designated as a “scholastic weekend” by the NCAA on its Women’s Division I recruiting calendar.
The IBCA would like to thank the IHSAA, Ballogy, McDonald's, Gatorade, BSN Sports, IHSAA basketball officials who called the scrimmages and all the high school coaches for their support over the years in making these events successful. In addition, the IBCA would like to thank the athletic staffs at Brownsburg, Carmel and Westfield high schools for allowing their facilities to be used for these events in 2022.
