Indiana Basketball Hall of FameBy Chris May |
![]() |
This past year has been an outstanding one for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame as we have been involved with events that have furthered the knowledge, interest and love of Indiana high school basketball. Our 2010 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic produced memorable moments in front of enthusiastic crowds. Congratulations are in order to our girls’ tournament winner Brownsburg, which knocked off two previously unbeaten squads to take the title. When all was said and done, two of our other girls’ tournament teams won their class championships – Evansville Memorial in 3A and Jeffersonville in 4A. Our other participant, Carmel, had a successful postseason run. In the season’s final girls’ Sagarin Ratings, our participants were four of the top seven teams in the state, proving again our apt slogan: “Big Names, Big Games.” Our boys’ tournament, played in front of remarkable crowds, saw four tremendously close and competitive games. Center Grove came back to defeat Bloomington South in double-overtime in our championship game to cap quite a memorable day. Warsaw and Washington brought great crowds and offered a battle in the consolation game that was determined by two points. In all, our four boys’ games were decided by a combined 15 points, tying for the closest in our event’s 34-year history. We are proud of our incoming class of 2011 inductees, Silver Anniversary Team honorees, and Center Circle Officials Award honorees for both men and women. We will welcome the newest Hall of Famers this spring – March 23 for the men and April 30 for the women. It is also encouraging that the NCAA will be adopting an “Indiana basketball” feel to their Womens’ Final Four this Spring in Indianapolis. We look forward to helping tell the story of Indiana basketball to the visitors that this event will bring. We are appreciative of increased participation by IBCA members becoming annual members with the Hall of Fame. IBCA members are offered a membership for $25 per year, a 75 percent discount off the normal cost. Your support helps us run our operations and share the history and memories of Indiana high school basketball and gives you information and access to the many events that we put on each year. If you and your staff have not taken advantage, please contact us to help get you on board! Upcoming Hall of Fame events include three golf tournaments this summer. Make plans to join us June 3 at Country Oaks in Montgomery, July 6 in Kokomo or July 18 in Noblesville. Call our office at (765) 529-1891 for more information or to register. We continue to offer more and better ways to follow Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame activities. This spring we will be launching a new website that will include information about the Hall of Fame museum and inductees in addition to an eCommerce store, online event registration, online membership payment and interactivity with our social media outlets, Facebook and Twitter. Check out the new site at www.hoopshall.com and become a fan and follower on Facebook and Twitter (www.twitter.com/HoopsHall) We appreciate the support from the IBCA and the relationship between our organizations. Contact our offices at (765) 529-1891, e-mail me at chris@hoopshall.com or better yet visit our 14,000-square foot facility in New Castle with any ideas or questions or to simply enjoy some time at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. -- Chris May, Executive Director |
