2017 Virgil Sweet Distinguished Service Awards
Each year the IBCA Board of Directors selects individuals from each of the three IBCA Districts to receive the Virgil Sweet Distinguished Service Award. The award, named in honor of the longtime former Executive Director of the IBCA, is given to individuals who have provided meritorious service in the promotion of basketball in the state of Indiana.

Fifteen players were chosen “Supreme 15”, 16 more were chosen Large School All-State (because of a tie in voting) and 15 more were chosen Small School All-State for both Senior and Underclass players in the IBCA/Subway All-State program for boys.

Fifteen players were chosen “Supreme 15”, 15 more were chosen Large School All-State and 15 more were chosen Small School All-State for both Senior and Underclass players in the IBCA/Subway All-State program for girls. In addition, 86 seniors and 85 underclass players received Honorable Mention All-State accolades.

Forty players were chosen as first-team selections on the IBCA 2017 Boys' Academic All-State Team. An additional 156 players were selected as honorable mention Academic All-State.

Thirty-nine players were chosen as first-team selections on the IBCA 2017 Girls' Academic All-State Team. An additional 161 players were selected as honorable mention Academic All-State.

IBCA/Subway Players of the Week
Ninety-nine student-athletes were named IBCA/Subway Players of the Week during the 2016-17 season. Those selected – 53 boys and 46 girls – will receive a certificate of recognition of their honor from the IBCA and Subway Restaurants of Indiana.

The fourth Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup was played Jan. 7 at New Castle Fieldhouse. The event is a five-game competition between teams from Indiana and Kentucky, coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
