IBCA clinic for 2024  
The 2024 IBCA Clinic will return to Lawrence North High School on April 25-26. The 2024 Clinic will be held in a Thursday evening-Friday format for the second consecutive year. More than 800 coaches attended the 2023 IBCA Clinic, so this format will be continued.

IHSAA adjusts way schools are classified and how tournament success factor is determined for 2024-25  
During its final meeting of the 2022-23 school year on June 22, 2023, the IHSAA Executive Committee approved a rule that changes the way schools are classified in four-class sports. This new policy takes effect in the 2024-25 school year.

The Indiana High School Basketball Record Book has statistics on nearly every high school boys’ basketball program in the state of Indiana – 400-plus overall.

In order for a player from your school to be eligible for selection to an IBCA All-State Team, the IBCA Academic All-State Team or to win a Player of the Week award or a Marion Crawley, Junior Mannies, Pat Aikman or Steve & Jeanie scholarship award, you must be a current-year-member of the IBCA.

Luceo package a part of IBCA membership  
The IBCA partnered with Luceo Sports in the fall of 2021 to take over management of the IBCA technology services. This partnership has resulted a play-drawing app being available to member coaches as well as in upgrades to the IBCA website, e-mail communication and social media communication.

IBCA All-State teams for 2023-24  
The IBCA will choose all-state teams in four general categories in 2032-24 – Senior Boys, Underclass Boys, Senior Girls and Underclass Girls. Within each category, four groups of honorees will be selected.

January is ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ month  
January once again has been designated as “Coaches vs. Cancer” month by the IBCA for high school basketball in Indiana in the 2023-24 season. This is the 17th season that the IBCA has supported such an initiative. In the first 16 years of this initiative, boys’ and girls’ coaches across Indiana have raised more than $1.4 million – including more than $124,300 last season – in the fight against cancer.

New varsity coaches for 2023-24  
From the beginning of last season through late November 2023, 198 people have been hired as new varsity basketball coaches in Indiana – 105 to boys’ basketball positions and 93 to girls’ basketball positions for the 2023-24 season.

Initial-eligibility requirements for college-bound student-athletes  
Many high school athletes aspire to one day compete in college athletics. Academic performance at the high school level is often an early question that college coaches ask about when considering a prospect from the high school level. Remember, it is “student-athlete” and not just “athlete.”

All-Star report By Mike Broughton
The 2024 Indiana All-Star games are set for June 7 in Owensboro and June 8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Indiana Junior-Senior All-Star exhibition doubleheader will be played June 5 at a site to be announced.

Liability insurance coverage as IBCA member for 2023-24  
As a membership benefit, coverage is provided by the Commercial General Liability Policy issued to the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors. This policy will protect the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and its active members who are high school coaches, junior high coaches or elementary coaches.

Tentative dates for 2024 are June 13 (Girls' Top 100 Underclass Showcase), June 14-15 (Girls' Team Showcase), June 21-23 (Boys' Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes) and June 28 (Boys' Top 100 Underclass Showcase).

IBCA mentoring program continues  
The IBCA is continuing its Mentoring Program in the 2023-24 season. The program was started in 2019-20 and takes another step forward in 2023-24. IBCA president-elect Kaley May of Danville is the current coordinator of this program.

IBCA announces a fourth scholarship in the names Steve and Jeanie Witty  
The IBCA has created a fourth scholarship program for the 2023-24 academic year. The new award will be presented in the names of Steve and Jeanie Witty.

Junior Mannies / Marion Crawley / Pat Aikman scholarship information  
In 2023, the IBCA recognized 40 students with scholarship awards – one Junior Mannies Scholarship, 37 Marion Crawley Scholarships and two Pat Aikman Character and Leadership Awards.

NFHS Coach of the Year nominees  
Aaron Wolfe of NorthWood and Tony Hasenour of Forest Park have been chosen as Indiana’s nominees for the National Federation of State High School Associations national basketball coaches of the year.

NFHS rule changes: Free throw procedures, foul administration amended for 2023-24 season  
The most significant change was the elimination of the "one-and-one" situation on non-shooting fouls and changing the team foul count to each quarter instead of each half; beginning in 2023-24, players will shoot two free throws on non-shooting fouls starting with the fifth foul of each quarter.

The 256-page publication is a comprehensive survey of all Indiana high school basketball (both boys and girls). In addition, all men’s and women’s college teams are featured as well as the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.

Hoosier Basketball Magazine hosts Top 60 Senior Workouts By Kip Wesner
Dates have been set for the 2024 Top 60 Senior Workouts held in conjunction with the IBCA and IHSAA -- girls will be March 3 at Beech Grove High School; boys will be April 7 at Marian University.
