IBCA changes in leadership, constitution, added district reps
A number of changes within IBCA has occurred over the past few months, including -- Marty Johnson becoming executive director, Tom Beach becoming associate executive director/chief operating officer and Steve Witty becoming executive director emeritus. Also, the IBCA Constitution has been updated and there now are 18 district representative positions.

IBCA clinic for 2023
A new format and a new site are planned for the 2023 IBCA Clinic. The event for this coming spring will be a Thursday evening-Friday event. There will not be a Saturday session.

IHSAA modifies regional, semi-state format for 2023
The IHSAA voted in June to change the tournament format to a one-game regional and two-game semi-state; also, consideration is being given by the IIAAA to propose converting the tournament to a five-class event with each class based on specific enrollment parameters.

Join the IBCA
In order for a player from your school to be eligible for selection to an IBCA All-State Team, the IBCA Academic All-State Team or to win a Player of the Week award or a Marion Crawley, Junior Mannies or Pat Aikman scholarship award, you must be a current-year-member of the IBCA.

Luceo package a part of IBCA membership
The IBCA partnered with Luceo Sports in the fall of 2021 to take over management of the IBCA technology services. This partnership has resulted in upgrades to the IBCA website, e-mail communication, social media communication as well as registration services for membership and clinics, etc.

IBCA All-State teams for 2022-23
The IBCA will choose all-state teams in four general categories in 2022-23 – Senior Boys, Underclass Boys, Senior Girls and Underclass Girls. Within each category, four groups of honorees will be selected.

January is ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ month
January once again has been designated as “Coaches vs. Cancer” month by the IBCA for high school basketball in Indiana in the 2022-23 season. This is the 16th season that the IBCA has supported such an initiative.

From the beginning of last season through late September mid-November 2022, 176 people have been hired as new varsity basketball coaches in Indiana – 77 to boys’ basketball positions and 99 to girls’ basketball positions for the 2022-23 season.

The 21st annual IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Underclass Showcase events are set for June 2023 (girls, June 15, boys June 17). There will be a new Girls' Team Showcase on June 16-17, and the Boys' Team Showcase will return on June 23-25.

The IBCA is continuing its Mentoring Program in the 2022-23 season. The program was started in 2019-20. The effort was upgraded in 2020-21 and takes another step forward in 2022-23.

NFHS rule changes for 2022-23: Hair adornment use clarified, shot-clock guidelines adjusted
The allowance of hair adornments made of hard material has been clarified in high school basketball. In addition, the Shot Clock Guidelines were simplified to suggest a full reset of the shot clock after a ball is intentionally kicked or fisted. According to the most recent NFHS High School Athletics Participation Survey, a total of 540,769 boys participated in basketball in 18,617 schools, and 399,067 girls participated in the sport in 18,210 schools across the country.
