IBCA clinic for 2025  
The 2025 IBCA Clinic will be held in a Thursday evening-Friday format for the third consecutive year. More than 800 coaches attended the 2024 IBCA Clinic, so this format will be continued.

New sectional assignments, tournament success factor adjustment for 2024-25 and added ‘moratorium’ days for 2025  
The 2024-25 season brings sectional realignment to the IHSAA state tournament series in boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball; also, each school must have five additional moratorium days in the summer of 2025.

NFHS rule changes: Flopping addressed for 2024-25 high school basketball  
A new definition and subsequent warning for faking being fouled – or “flopping” – has been added to the NFHS Basketball Rules Book for the 2024-25 season.

Join the IBCA  
In order for a player from your school to be eligible for selection to an IBCA All-State Team, the IBCA Academic All-State Team or to win a Player of the Week or Team of the Week award or a Marion Crawley, Junior Mannies, Pat Aikman or Steve & Jeanie Witty scholarship award, you must be a current-year-member of the IBCA.

Liability insurance coverage as IBCA member for 2024-25  
As a membership benefit, coverage is provided by the Commercial General Liability Policy issued to the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors. This policy will protect the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and its active members who are high school coaches, junior high coaches or elementary coaches.

IBCA weekly honors program for 2024-25  
2024-25 is the 17th season of the IBCA Player of the Week program, presented again this year by Franciscan Health Sports Medicine. New this season, the IBCA is initiating an IBCA Team of the Week program, presented by Ballogy.

IBCA mentoring program continues  
The IBCA is continuing its Mentoring Program in the 2024-25 season. The program was started in 2019-20. The effort was upgraded in 2020-21 and again in 2023-24. It takes another step forward in 2024-25. IBCA president-elect Kaley May of Danville is the coordinator this program.

Dates for 2025 IBCA exposure events are June 12 (Girls' Top 100 Underclass Showcase), June 14-15 (Girls' Team Showcase), June 20-22 (Boys' Team Showcase) and June 27 (Boys' Top 100 Underclass Showcase).

The IBCA offers financial support for the families of selected IBCA scholarship winners each year. In 2024, the IBCA recognized 40 students with $500 scholarship awards. Nomination deadline for 2025 is Feb. 19.

The IBCA is pleased to introduce Ben Carnes and the Mental Training Plan. Carnes has brought his company on board as an IBCA corporate partner to deliver cutting-edge mental performance resources for basketball coaches and players.

Luceo package a part of IBCA membership  
The IBCA partnered with Luceo Sports in the fall of 2021 to take over management of the IBCA technology services. This partnership has resulted in upgrades to the IBCA website, e-mail communication, social media communication as well as registration services for membership and clinics, etc.

IBCA All-State teams for 2024-25  
The IBCA will choose all-state teams in four general categories in 2024-25 – Senior Boys, Underclass Boys, Senior Girls and Underclass Girls. Within each category, four groups of honorees will be selected.

January is ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ month  
January once again has been designated as “Coaches vs. Cancer” month by the IBCA for high school basketball in Indiana in the 2024-25 season. This is the 18th season that the IBCA has supported such an initiative.

Dave Benter of Brownstown Central and Angie Hinton of Lanesville have been chosen as Indiana’s nominees for the National Federation of State High School Associations national basketball coaches of the year.

New varsity coaches for 2024-25  
From the beginning of last season through late September 2024, 168 people have been hired as new varsity basketball coaches in Indiana – 78 to boys’ basketball positions and 90 to girls’ basketball positions for the 2024-25 season.

The Indiana High School Basketball Record Book has statistics on nearly every high school boys’ basketball program in the state of Indiana – 400-plus overall.

Initial-eligibility requirements for college-bound student-athletes  
Many high school athletes aspire to one day compete in college athletics. Academic performance at the high school level is often an early question that college coaches ask about when considering a prospect from the high school level. Remember, it is “student-athlete” and not just “athlete.”

Indiana All-Star report By Mike Broughton
Looking ahead to 2025, dates for the Indiana/Kentucky All-Star senior doubleheaders have been set for June 6 in Kentucky and June 7 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Other doubleheaders (with sites TBD) are Indiana Juniors vs. Kentucky Juniors on June 1; the All-Star Futures Games on June 2; and the Junior-Senior exhibition contests on June 4.
